Matt Sigman was born in Los Angeles, California, in 1970. He received a B.S. in chemistry from Sonoma State University in 1992 before obtaining his Ph.D. at Washington State University with Professor Bruce Eaton in 1996 in organometallic chemistry. He then moved to Harvard University as an NIH postdoctoral fellow with Prof. Eric Jacobsen. In 1999, he joined the faculty of the University of Utah, where he currently holds Peter J. Christine S. Stang Presidential Endowed Chair of Chemistry. His research program explores the broad areas of oxidation catalysis, asymmetric catalysis, and the biological interactions of small molecules in breast cancer models.
During his illustrious career, Prof. Sigman has deservingly received numerous awards and honors, including Camille and Henry Dreyfus Teacher Scholar Award, Arthur C. Cope Scholar Award, University of Utah Distinguished Scholarly and Creative Research Award, Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and so on. He has served on numerous editorial advisory boards and is an associate editor for the Journal of the American Chemical Society.
