Report abstract:
?Function of molecules is largely dependent on their electronic and molecular structures. The structures are determined by chemical bonds. In organic molecules, there are two types of chemical bonds, i.e., σ-bond and π-bond. π-Bonds are weaker than σ-bonds. Thus, the π-bonding system is the origin of molecular functions, which include chemical reactivity, redox property, and photo-responsiveness. Although the number of molecules that are constructed only using σ-bonds is infinite, molecules with π-single bonded species are very rare. The electronic and molecular structures of the π-single bonded species should be dramatically different from σ-bonded species. In the present study, the molecular design and synthesis of π-single bonded species are investigated for future science.
