ABSTRACT


A well-known book titled “Chemistry the Central Science” has been republished up to its 13th edition in 2014, indicating that the significance of chemistry is well recognized in the development of science and technology. For energy sustainability, the role of chemistry is crucial. The carbon energy creates human civilization, which is now threatened in return by carbon emission for its sustainability. The concept of green carbon science is then proposed as the scientific basis for the integration of highly efficient carbon resource processing and utilization, low carbon emission, and carbon chemical recycling. Green carbon science is defined as study and optimization of the transformation of carbon chemical bonding and the relevant processes involved in the entire carbon cycle from carbon resource processing, carbon energy utilization, CO2 fixation, and carbon recycling to minimize the carbon imbalance caused by over-consumption of carbon resources. The objective is clearly energy sustainability.


The chemistry basics for carbon energy, such as elements, bonds, and molecules are briefly introduced. The essence of chemistry for energy conversion lies in two main aspects: hydrogen involving chemistry and redox chemistry. The key role of hydrogen for green carbon science and energy sustainability is highly stressed.? The redox chemistry, which is closely related to carbon energy and carbon recycle, can be interpreted as intrinsic chemistry of green carbon science. Chemistry for energy storage and chemical engineering approaches are also discussed.

Four Phases I, II, III and IV can be discriminated for different conversion reactions and related processes in the graphic expression of green carbon science, they are: low carbon fossil resource processing, biomass conversion, CO2 chemical recycling, and CO2 ecological/chemical recycling, respectively. The core part of the graphic expression is fuel and chemicals production, that is, the function of a refinery. If oil refinery is regarded as the first generation refinery, the second, third, fourth and fifth generation refineries will be constructed by sequentially introducing Phase I, II, III and IV processes.?


Biography:

何鳴元,中石化石油化工科學(xué)研究院原總工程師,華東師范大學(xué)終身教授。曾任中科院化學(xué)部常委、副主任,學(xué)部主席團(tuán)成員,國際催化理事會(huì)理事,國際沸石分子篩協(xié)會(huì)(IZA) 副主席等。1995年當(dāng)選中國科學(xué)院院士。

?? 在煉油化工過程和催化材料領(lǐng)域有多項(xiàng)創(chuàng)新和發(fā)明。為解決我國重油裂化、提高催化裂化汽油辛烷值、新標(biāo)準(zhǔn)汽油生產(chǎn)等技術(shù)難題作出貢獻(xiàn)。自上世紀(jì)90年代以來,致力于綠色化學(xué)化工應(yīng)用基礎(chǔ)研究和技術(shù)開發(fā)。2000年被聘為國家重大基礎(chǔ)研究項(xiàng)目“石油煉制和基本有機(jī)化學(xué)品合成的綠色化學(xué)”首席科學(xué)家。2003年建立了上海市綠色化學(xué)與化工過程綠色化重點(diǎn)實(shí)驗(yàn)室。

??在國內(nèi)外申請專利200多項(xiàng),發(fā)表論文100余篇,著作若干部。獲國家創(chuàng)造發(fā)明二、三等獎(jiǎng)和國家十大科技成就等。2001年獲何梁何利基金科學(xué)與技術(shù)進(jìn)步獎(jiǎng)。2012年獲中國催化成就獎(jiǎng)。2013年獲法國教育部棕櫚葉騎士勛章。2016年獲法國里昂高等師范大學(xué)榮譽(yù)博士學(xué)位。
